What is Material Design?
Material design is a language and a system for designing interfaces across platforms such as iOS, Android, and digital platforms. It’s used to allow for a better relationship between a human and their device. It brings life to icons, fonts, colors, wallpaper and so much more. Both Apple and Google have their own material design language that are used when creating apps on their devices. Material design is also popular amongst Bootstrap developers that build CSS front end frameworks on mobile devices. The following are the type of professionals that can also be deemed as material Designers:
- User experience designers
- Principal designers
- Design managers
- Interaction Designers
- Visual Designers
Actual physical materials such as paper, components, and palettes are used as a test to see how these things react to natural movements. For example, an icon made of layered paper will be tested at an angle to a beam of light to see how and where a shadow will react. Designers can then apply the same shadows and effects to the material design digitally.
